“Hmm.” Huo Qijun reluctantly unwrapped the package and ate two pieces. He wasn’t sure if it was just his imagination, but he felt a bit more comfortable in his stomach.
Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of Lin Wei sitting on the nearby sofa, casually scrolling through his phone while waiting for him. He seemed completely unfazed by the events of the day. Instead, Huo Qijun remembered Lin Wei’s sly smile when he mentioned he liked men, thinking there was some underlying meaning. But now, observing Lin Wei’s demeanour, it seemed that the whole declaration was merely to prevent him from getting jealous—it had nothing to do with him at all.
Reflecting on this eased Huo Qijun’s mind; the embarrassment that had been bothering him was finally dissipating. Although there was still some remaining blush of feeling overly sentimental, it didn’t hinder his decision to enlist Lin Wei’s help in pursuing someone: “You mentioned earlier that you have a way to get Fu Xiaoqing to agree to come to my house as a nanny?”
Lin Wei looked up at his question but didn’t respond immediately. Instead, he playfully countered, “You don’t suspect that I have ulterior motives, do you?”
He aimed to completely desensitize Huo Qijun to this subject, leaving no potential for misunderstandings.
Huo Qijun, aware that he was in the wrong, couldn’t bear to look him in the eye and stiffly said, “Just tell me if you can do it!”
“Fine, I’ll find a time to talk to her. Once she agrees, I’ll let you know,” Lin Wei said, shrugging as he got up. “Are you feeling any better? If you are, let’s go. I haven’t had dinner either, and I’m starving!”
“Okay.”
The two of them left the company, intending to find a nearby restaurant. However, just as they stepped outside the Huos’ gate, Lin Wei heard the system’s voice in his mind.
[Master, the female lead is facing trouble tonight, and the male lead should have appeared in time, but since he’s with you now, what will happen to the female lead?]
[Where is Fu Xiaoqing right now? What’s going on?]
[The female lead is working part-time at Feixiang Bar tonight, and according to the plot, she will be harassed by an unidentified passerby. Just as this occurs, the male lead would show up and, out of anger, beat the passerby to a concussion. The original text also details post-event retaliation from the male lead, making sure this lecherous passerby permanently loses their means to act.]
It could be said that it felt good to watch, yet it was beyond comprehension just how chaotic this world was.
Lin Wei knew about this segment but didn’t realize it was happening tonight. The specific timing of events in the original plot isn’t particularly well defined, which is why he relied on the system for assistance. Once key plot points are triggered, the system receives warnings from the world’s consciousness, commonly referred to as cheating.
However, it’s a bit late for that now. He couldn’t prevent Huo Qijun from going, nor could he ignore the fact that Fu Xiaoqing, a pitiful girl about to be bullied, needed help. Moreover, Huo Qijun, with his controlling nature, would certainly find out later. If that happened, he might retaliate even harder.
Lin Wei had no choice but to coax Huo Qijun into his car and proceeded to drive toward Feixiang Bar, following the system’s directions. Fortunately, it wasn’t too far; he hoped to resolve the situation before the passerby acted recklessly.
When they arrived and parked at the curb, Huo Qijun looked at him in disbelief. “I have a stomachache, and you brought me to a bar?”
Even though he was often consumed by work and neglected his health, he had never experienced such blatant disregard from someone else. What happened to Lin Wei’s medical ethics? Did they get eaten by dogs?
“There’s someone you want to meet here,” Lin Wei hinted.
Huo Qijun immediately fell silent and unclasped his seatbelt, stepping out of the car.
Although Fu Xiaoqing desperately needed money, she was smart enough to protect herself. The bar didn’t seem like a chaotic environment but rather slightly noisy. If it hadn’t been for the plot setting, the chances of encountering unruly customers here would be slim.
Lin Wei led a visibly picky Huo Qijun to a booth with a good view of the whole room. Looking around, he didn’t spot Fu Xiaoqing yet, but he kept in mind that he had someone with a stomachache in front of him. He glanced at the electronic menu and selected two portions of fried rice, the only stomach-friendly option on the list surrounded by alcohol and appetizers.
Huo Qijun didn’t pay much attention to what he ordered and didn’t feel embarrassed about just eating fried rice at a bar instead of drinking. In Huo Qijun’s eyes, this place only served to elevate his status.
Who would dare to laugh at him?
He hadn’t been mocked before, not unless you counted Lin Wei’s inexplicable outbursts today, which seemed to repeatedly mock his inability to chase after people.
Thinking about it still left him a bit upset. But perhaps Lin Wei had handled the situation so well that Huo Qijun found himself unusually tolerant, not feeling much desire to confront him.
“Are you sure she’s really here?” Huo Qijun adjusted his glasses, feeling like his eyes were getting overwhelmed by the array of colourful lights in the bar.
Just as Lin Wei was about to ask the system for help locating Fu Xiaoqing, he noticed her in the distance, dressed in a waitress uniform, carefully making her way through the crowd with two plates of fried rice. He couldn’t help but marvel at how fate intertwined the male and female leads.
Huo Qijun followed Lin Wei’s gaze and spotted her, instinctively rising to get closer. However, he quickly stopped himself, sitting back down and returning his gaze to a cold, indifferent demeanour as he waited for Fu Xiaoqing to approach.
His sharp facial features enhanced his coldness, creating an aura of distance. Even if he was handsome in such a setting, regular girls would only feel like he was out of reach. Furthermore, with Fu Xiaoqing’s strong sense of pride, she wouldn’t be interested in approaching him.
As expected, when Fu Xiaoqing approached and saw Lin Wei, her surprised smile dropped the moment her gaze met Huo Qijun’s stoic expression. If she hadn’t reminded herself she was still on the job, she likely would have frowned as she delivered the food.
“Lin Wei-ge,” Fu Xiaoqing set the plates down, smiling softly at Lin Wei before excusing herself due to work and swiftly departing to continue her tasks.
If this had been before today, Fu Xiaoqing’s dismissive behaviour would have struck the most sensitive nerve in Huo Qijun. He would have doubted whether Lin Wei had ulterior motives in trying to woo her. But now, Lin Wei simply smiled at the glowering young master across from him, who was mostly keeping his frustrations bottled up.
